Hearing Aid Consultations - What to Expect

Hearing aid consultations are scheduled for one hour and are at no charge. Typically a hearing test has been completed prior to the consultation. If you had the hearing test at a facility other than BRSH, please bring a copy of your audiogram with you at the consultation appointment.

The audiologist will review the hearing test results and answer any questions you have regarding the type of loss and severity.

It is important for you to communicate your needs and desires for what type of hearing aid you want to your audiologist. Factors to consider would be cosmetics, how active a lifestyle you lead, work environment, social activities, dexterity issues and how much you want to financially invest in the hearing aids.

The audiologist will look inside your ears to determine the presence of any abnormalities or wax. If your ears are clear, an impression will be made of the external auditory canals. The audiologist will insert a piece of cotton or foam tied to a string into the ear canal to protect the eardrum. She will then use a syringe, somewhat like a cake decorating tool or a caulking instrument to insert a silicone like material in your ear. The material will be removed from your ear in 2 to 5 minutes. You will be scheduled to return for a hearing aid fitting in 2 weeks. Hearing aid orders can be expedited for an additional fee.

It is the Center's policy for the patient to pay half down on the price of the hearing aids at the time the impressions are made and the remaining balance the day the hearing aids are dispensed.

Hearing aids have either a 30 day or 60 day trial, depending on the model chosen. If you are not satisfied with the instruments at the end of your trial period, your money is refunded minus a fitting fee of $100 to $150 dollars in addition to the shipping fee to return the hearing aids.
