  2. Problems carrying out multistep directions
  3. Poor listening skills
  4. Need more time to process information.
  5. Language, learning, or attention difficulty in school and at home.

  9. Problems understanding in background noise
  10. Problems with phonics or discriminating speech sounds.

If you are concerned that your child may have APD, it is recommended that your child follow these steps:

  1. First see your pediatrican or family doctor for any concerns so that they can rule out possible diseases that may cause these symptoms
  2. See an audiologist to rule out peripheral auditory involvement.
  3. See a neuropyschologist to do a full battery of assessments and to identify and rule out attention, memory, and related disorders.
  4. See a speech/language pathologist for auditory processing and language assessments to evaluate the patient and tailor a therapy plan to assist the child in comprehending spoken language.
  5. Have a full diagnostic audiological evaluation completed.
