Twinkle toes is a movement based social group designed for young preschoolers. This group will be led by a previous dancer/instructor who is also a Speech Language Pathologist, and an Occupational Therapist. Research shows that participation in dance helps promote overall health, well being, creativity, cognition and expression through movement. The Speech Pathologist will help facilitate appropriate social interactions of participants. The Occupational Therapist will implement sensory motor activities into the dance class that focus on balance skills, motor planning, and bilateral coordination. Gross motor skills will be emphasized to allow the children to experiment with their body movements to improve overall body awareness. Children of all medical backgrounds are welcome in this group. Group size will be limited to 6 children in order to provide each child with individualized attention.
Let's Rock and Roll is a movement based social group designed for early elementary aged students. This group will be led by a previous dancer/instructor who is also a Speech Language Pathologist, and an Occupational Therapist. Research shows that participation in dance helps promote overall health, well being, creativity, cognition and expression through movement. The Speech Language Pathologist will help facilitate appropriate social interactions of participants. The Occupational Therapist will implement sensory motor activities into the dance class to promote motor planning, gross motor skills, and bilateral coordination. Motor planning and motor control will be emphasized through natural and automatic responses to motor activities. Gross motor skills will be emphasized to allow the children to experiment with their body movements to improve overall body awareness. Children of all medical backgrounds are welcome in this group. Group size will be limited to 6 children in order to provide each child with individualized attention.
Toddler's Tales is a social group for preschoolers centered on picture book themes. The group will be led by both a Speech Language Pathologist and an Occupational Therapist. Each session will consist of a story reading followed by craft, and gross motor activities that correspond with the book read that day. Each activity will be designed to cultivate appropriate speech, language, and pragmatic skills. The sessions will require participants to implement gross motor, fine motor, and sensory processing skills. Children will also have the opportunity to socialize with other peers in a safe and supportive environment. Sensory processing and self-regulation strategies will be given to encourage appropriate peer interaction. Fine motor skills will focus on pencil grasp, cutting skills and visual motor skills during hands on activities. Group size will be limited to 6 children in order to provide each child with individualized attention.
Story Tellers is a social group for early elementary aged children centered on picture book themes. The group will be led by both a Speech Language Pathologist and an Occupational Therapist. Each session will consist of a story reading followed by craft and gross motor activities that correspond with the book read that day. Each activity will be designed to cultivate appropriate speech, language, and pragmatic skills. The sessions will require participants to implement gross motor, fine motor, and sensory processing skills. Children will have the opportunity to socialize with other peers in a safe and supportive environment. Sensory processing strategies will be used to help the children remain organized and regulated in a multi-sensory environment. Fine motor skills will focus on finger dexterity skills, hand writing, and craft activities. Group size will be limited to 6 children in order to provide each child with individualized attention.

A $50 deposit is required to hold your child's spot. Payment will be due in full prior to the start of the group session. Please note discounted rates due to services not rendered by insurance. Scholarships may be available, check back for more information.
Blue Ridge Speech and Hearing Center will offer free screenings to determine appropriateness for enrollment in any group.

In case of inclement weather conditions, call 703-858-7620 to hear a message explaining if we are closing early, opening late or canceling all services.
We will update the message by 7:30 am with a message to reflect the closing or delays status.
If you need to cancel an appointment with us due to inclement weather please call by 8:30 am or you may incur a cancellation fee.
